A Prayer for Holiness: Seeking God's Divine Presence

Prayer for Holiness

Heavenly Father
, We humbly come before your presence, acknowledging your holiness and majesty. As we gather in prayer, we seek to understand and embrace the call to holiness that you have placed upon our lives. Your Word in the Bible teaches us about the significance of holiness, and we desire to draw closer to you in purity and reverence.

Understanding Holiness

A. Exodus 15:11 (NIV): "Who among the gods is like you, Lord? Who is like you—majestic in holiness, awesome in glory, working wonders?"

Gracious God, we recognize that your holiness sets you apart from all else. You are majestic and awe-inspiring, and we aspire to reflect your holiness in our lives.

The Call to Holiness

A. Leviticus 20:7-8 (NIV): "Consecrate yourselves and be holy, because I am the Lord your God. Keep my decrees and follow them. I am the Lord, who makes you holy."

Lord, you have called us to be holy, just as you are holy. We understand that this is not merely a moral code but a deep commitment to consecrate ourselves to your service.

Holiness through Christ

A. 1 Peter 1:15-16 (NIV): "But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: 'Be holy, because I am holy.'"

We thank you, Lord Jesus, for setting the ultimate example of holiness. Through your life, death, and resurrection, you have made it possible for us to be sanctified and made holy.

Pursuing Moral Holiness

A. Ephesians 5:8-10 (NIV): "For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness, and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord."

Help us, Heavenly Father, to live as children of light. May our lives be characterized by goodness, righteousness, and truth as we seek to please you in all that we do.

Pursuing Spiritual Holiness

A. 1 Thessalonians 4:7-8 (NIV): "For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life. Therefore, anyone who rejects this instruction does not reject a human being but God, the very God who gives you his Holy Spirit."

We pray for the guidance of your Holy Spirit, Lord. Empower us to live lives that are pleasing to you, avoiding impurity and embracing holiness.

Holiness in Our Thoughts and Hearts

A. Psalm 51:10 (NIV): "Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me."

We seek your transformation, Lord. Create in us pure hearts and renew our spirits, that our thoughts and innermost desires may be aligned with your holiness.

The Struggle for Holiness

A. Romans 7:18-19 (NIV): "For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing."

We acknowledge our human limitations, Lord. We often struggle in our pursuit of holiness, and we ask for your strength and grace to overcome our weaknesses.

Living as Holy Witnesses

A. Matthew 5:16 (NIV): "In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."

May our pursuit of holiness be a witness to the world, Heavenly Father. Let our lives shine with your goodness and bring glory to your name.

A Life of Holiness

Heavenly Father,

As we conclude this prayer for holiness, we recognize the significance of this calling in our lives. We desire to be set apart for your purposes, to reflect your holiness in all that we do. We understand that holiness is a lifelong journey, and we seek your guidance and strength to walk in your ways.

May our pursuit of holiness draw us ever closer to your divine presence. We pray in Jesus' name, who taught us to pray, saying:

"Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen."
